Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a practice to improve the organic or natural volume of traffic to a website through search engines. Businesses are always looking for maximum market share, more customer exposure and the ultimate goal is to continuously increase sales. A website that starts coming on top under some particular keywords on search engines gains more traffic, popularity and hence sales of products or services than a website which is still struggling to touch the top for search engine results. The goals and targets for SEO (search engine optimization) vary from business to business. Typically SEO may target a small geographical location, city, country, specific to some industry or global.
There are many search engines on the internet now and each of them have their own policies and algorithms to rank a particular website under some specific search phrases. It may be almost impossible to optimize a website for all major search engines. However, I will try to elaborate some basics of SEO that should apply to almost every search engine.
To start with the SEO of any website, it is very important to understand how search engines work and which are the mostly searched keywords by people that are more specific to the theme of business that you are going to optimize. This is called “keyword research” and should be the starting point for search engine optimization of any website. Once keyword research is done and you know the search terms or phrases for which you are intending top SEO a website. You start with first of editing the html code as well as actual content of the website.
One must understand the reason for editing html code and content for the website in order to SEO. The process of search engine optimization spans many procedures and milestones. But if you divide the SEO process in two major parts then it could like
- Make your site Search Engine Friendly
- Adhere and follow rest of the SEO technologies.
Hope my first point in regards to making the site SEO friendly will not confuse lot of them. The basic reason for making your website search engine friendly is to make sure that it doesn’t contain any slugs that search engines hate. For example, you should not be using frames, hidden text, images contain alt tags, illegitimate pop ups or at least your website should not bear any html errors. But the other aspect of making a website SE friendly is to make sure that all the pages contain text based contents along with well phrased yet targeted page titles, meta tags and keywords.
Once you have done the first part, you are ready to rock and roll and if competition is not high for your keywords then most likely you will start coming on first page for all major search engines.
The process of optimizing a website for search engines against specific keywords getting tougher and tougher day by day and the main reason is that each business owner understands the importance of internet and search engines. So they are creating competition. So one should adopt a long term strategy to beat the big dogs of the industry and reach the top. This can be achieved by adopting suggestions from experts of the industry.
